The Zentralbibliothek Zürich wants to provide users with an easy way to collect, store and share digital images using the International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF).

Identify IIIF‑compliant
resources

The browser plugin ZB‑detektIIIF automatically detects digitised resources compliant with IIIF. You can collect them with a click.

Create your own
IIIF collections

Create IIIF collections of your images using the ZB‑detektIIIF and open them in the Mirador Viewer by Zentralbibliothek Zürich.

Your IIIF collections
are secure

IIIF manifests and collections in the Mirador Viewer are stored in your browser and may only be deleted by you.

Save and share your IIIF collection

In the near future you will be able to save your IIIF collections permanently and share them with others.

What's IIIF?

The International Image Interoperability Framework is an HTTP interface which facilitates the viewing, annotation and re-purposing of image data in specially developed image viewers, regardless of its original repository. The IIIF community is an international and open collaborative network of libraries, museums, archives, galleries and researchers, who continue to develop and improve the IIIF standard.

Our vision

The ZB‑Lab at the Zentralbibliothek Zürich wants to unlock the full potential of Humanities research data. The IIIF standard promotes a culture of user‑generated and universally accessible IIIF collections. By combining and developing new IIIF applications, we hope to cultivate a more open approach around research data in the Humanities and further the Open Science movement.

About us

The Zentralbibliothek Zürich is making its digital collections accessible to and usable for a wider audience. As municipal, cantonal and university library, it addresses a cross‑section of user groups on an equal basis and fosters digital culture in a user‑friendly way.

The task of the ZB‑Lab is to identify and develop digital services which harness the potential of the ZB's digital assets to its users' needs.
